Household name and time zone: rename your household, or move its week when you move

In EvenUS, open Us, then Household, and tap Your household to rename your household or change its time zone. Your weeks start at 00:00 on Monday in that zone. A new time zone takes over when the week you are in ends, and the screen shows the date as “from” that day. The currency stays as it was set.

What can you change on Your household?

Two shared settings live here: the household's name, and the time zone your weeks run on. Both belong to the household, so a change applies to both phones.

The name is the one typed on “Create your household”, and it is what the invite message names. The time zone decides where your week begins and ends: your weeks start at 00:00 on Monday in it, and the Sunday summary and household reminders run on it. A new household takes the zone of the phone that created it, so after a move, or a setup done while travelling, this is where you put it right.

The same screen holds the Time and money weights for the household balance, under “How much should time count?”.

Who is this for?

For a household that has moved city or country, or that would like a different name. It also suits a couple who set up EvenUS on a trip, so the week ran in the wrong zone.

How do you rename your household or change its time zone?

Open Us, then Household, and tap Your household. Edit the name and tap Save name, or tap Change time zone and pick a city.

  1. Open Your householdOpen the Us tab, tap Household, then Your household. The name and time zone sit below the list of members.
  2. Change the nameUnder Household name, edit the name (up to 60 characters). Save name appears once it differs; tap it. The name cannot be left empty.
  3. Open the time zone pickerUnder Time zone, the row shows the zone in force as a city and offset, such as “Kolkata · UTC+05:30”. Tap Change time zone.
  4. Pick a citySearch for a big city in your time zone and tap it. If your phone is in a different zone, “Use this phone's zone” picks it in one tap.
  5. Check the date it takes overYou see “Saved. Your weeks follow {city} time from {date}.” Until that day, the Time zone row shows the waiting change.
  6. Set the Time and money weightsUnder “How much should time count?”, choose 50/50, 60/40 or 70/30. The line below reads, for example, “Currently 60% time · 40% money”.

What does your partner see?

The same name and time zone, for both of you. Each change shows as a line in the activity feed, such as “Alex renamed the household” or “Alex changed the household's time zone”. A change to the weights reads “Alex changed how time and money are weighed in your balance”.

Tips for the name and time zone

  • No exact match for your town? Try a big city in the same time zone.
  • Changed your mind before the new zone takes over? Pick again. The new choice replaces the one still waiting.
  • If the change will not save, check that your phone's date and time are set automatically, then try again with a connection.
  • A phone in another time zone, on a work trip for example, still follows the household's week. For days away, use Away.

When does a new time zone take effect?

At the end of the week you are in. The week under way keeps its start and end, and finished weeks keep their dates.

Say Alex and Sam move from London to Mumbai and change the zone on a Wednesday. The sheet reads “A new time zone takes over for both of you when the week you're in ends: from {date}. This week stays as it is.” That week finishes on London time. From the next Monday, weeks start at 00:00 Mumbai time.

Can you change the household's currency?

No. The currency is chosen once, on “Create your household”, and stays as it was set. There is no currency setting on Your household, and EvenUS does not convert between currencies: a receipt, Wallet payment or quick-add line in another currency is marked so you can check the amount. If someone new joins later, the currency and time zone stay the same.

What do the Time and money weights change?

The overall score blends your time balance and your money balance; this setting picks the blend, with 60/40 as the default. Insights shows it under “How the number is made”, for example “Time 60%, money 40%.” Hours are never turned into money.

Is Household name and time zone free?

Household name and time zone keeps working after the 7-day free week, whether or not you subscribe. The computed views, such as the household balance and this week’s idea, are part of EvenUS Pro: $9.99 a month or $79.99 a year, with one subscription covering both partners. The free week needs no card, and nothing is charged when it ends.
