Cozi vs FamilyWall (2026): Which Is Better for Families?
Cozi and FamilyWall are family organizers whose Terms name the same operators. Cozi Gold is $39 a year, FamilyWall Premium $44.99. Which suits your family?
Cozi and FamilyWall are both family organizers, and the Terms of each say the two websites are operated by the same three companies: Cozi, Inc., Family & Co. and In Tandem Families. Cozi is the simpler one: a color-coded family calendar, shared lists and meal planning, free with ads, or $39 a year for Cozi Gold. FamilyWall is the broader one, adding a messenger, photo gallery and, in Premium, a budget tracker and location alerts, for $44.99 a year (prices checked 29 October 2026).
- Choose Cozi if your family mostly needs one shared calendar, a shopping list and a meal plan that everyone can see, and you like a daily or weekly agenda by email.
- Choose FamilyWall if you want calendar, lists, family chat, photos and location in one app, or you organize more than one group, since one Premium subscription applies to the first five circles you create.
- Choose EvenUS if the calendar is fine but the two adults disagree about who carries more of the work, the planning and the costs.
We make EvenUS, the third column in the table below. We have no affiliate deal with Cozi or FamilyWall, and neither has paid for anything here. Everything we say about them comes from their own websites, terms, help pages and store listings, read on 29 October 2026. Prices and plans change, so check before you pay.

What Cozi does well
Cozi's core is free on iPhone, Android and the web, and one account holds the whole family, so nobody has to buy their own copy, and the Gold features page says the ad-free experience applies to everyone in the family. On 29 October 2026 it was rated 4.8 on the US App Store (about 402,000 ratings), with more than 5 million Google Play downloads. The calendar is the part most families come for. Each person gets a color, you can set reminders for yourself or for someone else, and Cozi can send a daily or weekly agenda by email, which suits a parent who plans the week from an inbox. It also works with Google, Outlook and Apple calendars, so you can subscribe to a school or club calendar rather than typing it in.
The food side joins up neatly. Recipes sit in a recipe box, their ingredients can go straight onto the shopping list, and meals can be scheduled onto the calendar. In April 2025 Cozi added a Chores list, where recurring chores are assigned and tracked per family member and each person has their own list, on iOS and Android.
Cozi Gold, at $39 a year (checked 29 October 2026), removes the ads and adds a month view on phones, calendar search, up to three reminders per event, change notifications, a birthday tracker, Shopping Mode and VIP support. Cozi Max, at $79 a year on cozi.com ($79.99 on the App Store), adds AI tools: event import, a recipe creator and a meal planner. The App Store listing also shows several Cozi Gold prices between $29.99 and $59.99 alongside the $39 one.
Where Cozi is limited
The free version shows ads. Cozi's App Store and Google Play listings put the ability to add, edit and view events more than 30 days ahead among the Gold features, which means free accounts do not have it; that limit is in the store listings rather than on the compare-plans page. There is no messenger, gallery or location sharing described on Cozi's pages, and the Family Journal was removed in 2021, with users asked to download theirs before 15 August 2021. Nothing on Cozi's official pages describes money tracking, splitting costs, time tracking or a view of how the work is divided between adults.
What FamilyWall does well
FamilyWall tries to be the whole family's phone hub. The App Store listing's free features are a shared color-coded calendar with reminders, shopping lists, to-do and chore lists that can be assigned to a member, recipes, a messenger, a photo and video gallery and contacts; the premium page on familywall.com puts a Recipe Box in Premium only. It runs on iPhone, iPad, Android and the web, and on 29 October 2026 it was rated 4.8 on the US App Store (about 25,000 ratings), with more than 5 million Google Play downloads.
Premium is a large bundle for $44.99 a year (checked 29 October 2026), with a 30-day free trial. It adds a Budget Tracker with spending limits by category that can be shared with the family, a Meal Planner that feeds the shopping list, Documents, Timetables, sync with Google and Outlook calendars plus subscriptions to calendars by URL, real-time location with place alerts, audio and video messages, 25 GB of storage, a Quick Grocery List, a Recipe Box and no ads. One subscription covers every member of a circle, and the App Store listing says Premium applies to the first five circles you create, which helps if you also organize grandparents, a co-parent or a sports team.
Where FamilyWall is limited
The premium page lists ad-free use as a Premium feature and the Terms say users may be shown ads, so expect ads on the free version (the about page, confusingly, calls the app ad-free). Google and Outlook calendar sync is a Premium feature. The monthly price is not the same everywhere: $4.99 on familywall.com and the Play description, $7.99 on the US App Store list, so check the store you will pay through. The Budget Tracker records shared spending against limits; it does not work out who pays whom back. Nothing on FamilyWall's pages describes balancing work between two adults, time tracking or the mental load.
Price: what you pay for each
Both are free to start and both describe ads on the free version. For a year without ads, Cozi Gold costs $39 and FamilyWall Premium $44.99, a gap of under $6 (checked 29 October 2026). The bigger difference is what the money buys. Cozi Gold mostly improves the calendar: month view, search, extra reminders, change alerts. FamilyWall Premium adds whole areas, including budgets, documents, timetables, location alerts and calendar sync. Cozi Max at $79 a year is the option if you want AI help importing events and planning meals. FamilyWall lets you try Premium for 30 days; Cozi's pages we read did not state a Gold trial length.
Calendar: the part most families use daily
Both calendars are color-coded and shared. Cozi's strengths are the agenda emails and subscribing to outside calendars, both listed among the free features on the store listings, with month view and search added in Gold. The 30-day limit on free accounts matters if you book vacations or appointments far ahead. FamilyWall's calendar shows one member or the whole family. Its Google Play listing puts importing your existing calendars among the free features, while its help center marks the Google and Outlook import as Premium; Google and Outlook sync is listed under Premium on every page we read. If one parent lives in Outlook at work, that sync may decide it.
Lists, chores and meals
Here the two are close. Both have shared shopping and to-do lists, both let you give a chore to a named person, and both connect recipes to the shopping list. Cozi's recipe to list to calendar flow is part of its long-standing core, and its per-member Chores list arrived in 2025; FamilyWall's Meal Planner is Premium. Neither app records how long a chore takes or who did the noticing and planning before it.
Money and sharing the work between two adults
FamilyWall is the only one of the two with a money feature: the Premium Budget Tracker, which logs expenses and sets spending limits by category. Cozi's pages describe no money features. Neither app splits costs between partners by income, tracks each adult's free time or measures the mental load. Both assign tasks to people, which shows what is on each list, but not whether the overall load is shared the way either of you would choose. If that is the real question in your house, a list of tasks will not answer it, and our guide to what the mental load is explains why.
Which should you choose?
You mostly need everyone on one calendar
Cozi does this simply, with colors per person and agenda emails. If you plan more than a month ahead, budget for Gold. Pick: Cozi.
You want chat, photos and location in the same app
Of the two, only FamilyWall describes a messenger, gallery and locator alongside the calendar, with real-time location and place alerts in Premium. Pick: FamilyWall.
You run more than one group
FamilyWall's circles let one Premium subscription apply to the first five groups you create, such as your household and grandparents. Cozi is built around one family account. Pick: FamilyWall.
The calendar works, but the two of you disagree about who carries more
Neither organizer measures that. Try our free mental load quiz together first, then look at a fairness app. Pick: EvenUS, alongside whichever calendar you already use.
Where EvenUS fits
This section is us talking about our own app, so weigh it accordingly. EvenUS is not a family calendar and does not try to replace Cozi or FamilyWall. It looks at the part neither describes: how the load is shared between two adults.
Each partner's free hours are worked out after sleep, paid work, travel, the house and the children are counted, on one scale for both of you. The mental-load map asks who holds each area of home life, such as meal planning, and shows where you see it differently. Shared costs can be split by income, evenly, so you end up with the same, or by splitting what is spare; our calculator shows how that works. There is a private weekly check-in, and the app suggests one task swap a week. It never shows one partner a score about the other.

What it lacks is plain. There is no family calendar for children, no meal planner, no chat or location, and no bank connection. It is built for two partners, and works best when both use it. It is in closed testing, not yet on the App Store or Google Play. After a 7-day free trial with no card, it costs $9.99 a month or $79.99 a year for both of you, and everything recorded stays readable and exportable after the trial. How we compared them
We read Cozi's and FamilyWall's official websites, terms, help centers and App Store and Google Play listings on 29 October 2026, and used only what they publish. Prices are as published on that date in US dollars, and store ratings are as shown that day. Where we say an app does not describe a feature, that means we did not find it on their official pages. We have not run a timed lab test of either app. Corrections are welcome at support@evenus.app. Google Play shows a different star rating in each country, so only its download counts are quoted.
